In the rare occasion that Vacuum Wars does a sponsored video or receives a product from a manufacturer to review, we will be clear about that in the video. Otherwise if nothing was mentioned, then this was an unsponsored review.
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program as well as the Walmart affiliate program and others. These are affiliate advertising programs designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and affiliated sites. The links are «Genius Links.» They give you the opportunity to choose which affiliated retailer you would like to go to when multiple affiliated options are available. In the case of Amazon, Genius links direct you to the Amazon store of your country. For example, if you are from Canada the Genius links will direct you to the Amazon.ca listing instead of the Amazon.com listing.
In using Genius Links, Vacuum Wars offers «Choice» pages as a service to our viewers so that they can more easily compare prices, shipping options, and other preferences. As you make your selections, be sure to read the product descriptions carefully. Different retailers may offer models with slightly different specifications or attachments.
I wonder why you didnt include the S9 in this comparison.
I just did a tear-down of the D8. Complete overhaul of the electronics with several key things resolved such as the side brush motor is now gear drive (no more o-ring belt). From a hardware perspective, they have been working hard it seems. Will see how the firmware and software evolves since it is a new platform.
After 4 different 8’s, (yes 4 times I went back to he store to exchange it) all buggy and never actually completing the 600sqft house I have had it, the latest was a death chime apparently and the Vacuum just kept yelling «Internal sensor problem call Customer Service» I did, they said it was done. Asked if it had » Gone Under furniture and got stuck because that could damage the top sensor»…. Shouldn’t it Sense not to go under such things? Its going back to Best Buy and getting a refund. Luckily Lowes had D7’s on sale for $400, less then what this pile of garbage costs and more like my beloved D5 that I had. Do Not Buy a D8!!!!
I would not hold my breath for software updates. D7 hasn’t received any in ages and is still terrible at navigating.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the AI hasn’t been improved since the XV-11. I’ve got a D5 and it makes all the same dumb errors shown in this video plus others, like simply thinking it must travel through a wall to get to another room rather than go out the way it came in. My XV-11 (10 years old) was at least as intelligent as my D5.
The only time I would recommend Neato is when they go on super sale for sub $200, and even then you’ll want to get the base model and upgrade the battery and get a spiral beater brush (no bristles to tangle up hair).
What a shit Robot 😂
CFM alone isn’t very indicative. 10 CFM through a 2 in² opening will have less sucking power than 8 CFM through 1 in². The area of the opening under the robot would have to be considered as well.
Neato app had multi-level support for quite a while now. In fact, that was the primary reason why I bought one back in the day. Did they actually REMOVE it in the new app?
Anybody come here thinking this was weed related
I still can’t believe Neato didn’t release a model with a self emptying base. I love my D7 but it does have those navigation issues where it gets stuck or it will randomly decide to ram into the dryer or the couch over and over for no reason then finally decide to move on. I recommended the D7 to my aunt before mine started having issues and have had to fix hers for her 2 or 3 times now because it was non functional. It makes me look bad that I recommended it to her whenever it decides to stop working. We both love them when they do what they’re supposed to do. I’m just disappointed that they haven’t fixed any issues with the new versions. I’ll probably end up getting a different brand whenever it needs replacing
RIP Neato
Neato by far cleans better than most of the robot vacuums — I find its practically superior to Deebot, for example, in cleaning floors. That said the cons you mentioned here with it getting stuck and being «dumb» in freeing itself is a problem ongoing since the release of the Connected series units. Neato boasts its D-shape, but it causes it to get stuck more, cause more damage to trim, furniture, and walls, and they clearly haven’t fixed the algorithm that helps the robot get around advanced corners and furniture. All signs point to Neato not fixing this issue (for some reason) so I wouldn’t be able to recommend this vacuum myself at this point. And while LIDAR is superior in general navigation, a camera allows for object recognition and avoidance. A combo of the two is really the best move moving forward for robot manufacturers. This D8 is effectively a visual re-design of the D7 but doesn’t seem to offer much superiority. It’s a shame.
Anyway, great video as always — and thank you.
I feel Neato has lost all lead they had and I’ve no idea why they did. They’re so slow in terms of adapting new technologies and a new design. Their vacuums can be better but they’ve not improved or don’t try new things.
Random comment for the YouTube algorithm.
When do you think Neato will come out with the D9 and 10?
Im good with my D7 for now
Would love to see if your battalion of robot vacuums could handle different types of carpet edges: shag, ruggable, etc… Love the channel
Is there a review of the honiture Q6 coming. I would love to see one from your testing stand point.
Just unboxed my d8. I guess my summary is that it’s Loud and Cranky. Stuck often. Complaining about brush issues. And a grinding sound that’s awesome. On turbo mode on hardwood/tile I got about 35 mins out of it. I had an ancient neato XV that could at least clean up in one pass. This got 50%? Basically same issues tho as the XV and doesn’t look like it’s smarter at all. Sorely needs a laser lid bumper. Stuck itself in under 5 under my recliner and scraped the heck out of it. 95% sure I’ll be returning and never bothering with a neato again but we’ll see if support has any magic up their sleeves.
Absolutely Nailed it with this review. Babysitting a MUST with the first mapping. (I have the D7). Mirrors to the floor are this vacuums kryptonite. However, We fill the bin almost every run and its a smaller house and even after cleaning lady vacuumed. This vacuum works amazing. I couldn’t imagine a smaller bin size. I would like them to add “Map updating” to my D7 TOO.
