Rosy our beloved Neato XV-11 robotic vacuum is sick and has a battery error message that says «Please Press Okay To Restart. Battery Issue (0002) (0008 (0009) (0005) (0006) . In this video you can learn how to repair this problem yourself with a simple fix.
For those who like to know how thing work, we also did a complete detailed tear down of the entire machine and explain how all the sensors, motors and electronics work together in unison to navigate this complicated vacuum cleaner that is a truly technological wonder.
Using a specially modified camera you will get a first hand visual look at how the on-board infrared laser sensors operate and aid in the navigation of the unit.
We have created a separate supplemental video showing how we modified a cheap digital camera to operate in the infrared spectrum by removing the IR blocking filter that can be watched here…

quick question, I’m troubleshooting a battery problem. (xv signature) One of the battery connectors in my unit is giving me continuity between two pins. The pin that lines up with the black wire of the battery, and the thermistor pin next to it. The other connector does not have continuity between any pins. I’m wondering if this is normal or the source of my problems.
My ev xv had the 0002 error. Removed battery and saw a pin pushed low. Pulled it up, re-installed the batteries, charged and it worked! But then it gave charging errors, solid orange light. It would not charge and it would not run. I do not recall the steps but I messed with turning it off with menu and other things I could get it to run a bit but it kept quitting. I left it on power over night then left it off overnight and and did a soft reset… held the big button down 30 seconds. It is charged in less than 15 minutes.. I do not trust it and from reading other posts have learned that the «molex»? connectors are very fragile. I think I would like to replace the ones in the neato. Does anyone know what part it is? Also, this video starts with the machine torn almost totally down. Is this much tear down needed to either put in the hot glue or replace those connectors?
Good video! Thanks!
Thanks for the video =)
Great video — did you consider replacing those original batteries with modern Lion?
Thank you for this video. I have a Neato XV 12 and it charges, but my new batteries loose time every time. I looked at the connectors inside and noticed that the two in the neato are broken on the sqare side of each of them. Even if the pins are o.k. could that be the problem? and if so, I live in Canada and don’t know where I could buy these connectors, do you have any idea where to get those?
very educational, thank you 🙂
Very useful, thanks for the video. Worked for me — mine was complaining about battery issue 0009.
The people at Neato told me that the vacuum knows that it is full by having 3 hours (or maybe 3.5) of run time.
Informative. Thanks.
was a loose battery connection in my case, it wasn’t charging till it died… pulled the battery, put it back, good as new, charging again properly.
Check guide from Avasva eco blog.
Very interesting. I was looking for a fix for Sarah, my XV-25 which has developed a charging or starting issue. It just shows a dim start button light, fails to start, no error message. To start it I keep it at the charge bay but also connect to the USB connector a second charger, then do full re-boot (long press of start button), then give it a couple hours to charge. I find this problem occurs most often if it isn’t used every day. My research has pointed to a weak capacitor somewhere, so looking for a video of how to repair that.
After 3 sets of replacement batteries, 2 aftermarket and 1 genuine OEM, I came across this video and sure enough my 3rd pin was pushed down! Pulled it back out and everything is fine. Thank you so much for saving Bobot (my wife named him).
Works like a charm. Disassembled to glue the pesky pin in place forever. Nearly ordered a new set of batteries.Thank you!
I have reversed the connector to get it working before
Very interesting. I’m about to take mine (different model) apart to solve a 0007 report, which apparently means the unit is too cold.
Had a Battery issue 0002. I realised (after seveval tries) it was related to Unbalanced batteries. As the batteries are connected in series, if one of them are discharged, you will have the battery 0002 issue. I solved the issue discharging completelly both battteries. reconnected, and the issue 0002 disapeared. If you install batteries completely charged, you are not going to be able to reset issue 0002 (I tried that). Hope this can help.
Dude! Your video helped me save my Neato from trash! I was ready to give up, but the malfunction was caused by the loose battery connections!
You are a smart guy !!!
